It’s easy to be intimidated by those so-called grill masters, but the truth is that it’s not all that difficult to master grilling and knowing the basics can help get you started without being intimidated.

If you want to get grilling, the first thing to do is to choose a barbeque. Two of the most popular options are charcoal and gas barbeques and each has pros and cons. Charcoal grills can be pretty affordable and provide a smoky flavor. They require a bit more cleaning and maintenance. Gas grills are easy to clean and give you options for whether or not you want a smoky flavor, but they can be more expensive.

With both types of grills, you will need to pre-heat them before you start cooking. You should also scrape off the grate with a brass-wire brush. Grease the grate with canola oil or another oil with a high smoking temperature. Now that your grill is ready to go you need to know what to cook on it. Many people like to BBQ meats such as steak, chicken, pork chops, fish, and ribs. There are also plenty of vegetables that are great on the grill including corn on the cob, onions, and many more.

Tools you’ll need include a cooking thermometers and tongs and dry rubs and marinades can be your best friend when it comes to grilling.
